The Boston fans complied, and the race has since been known as the “Run for the Hoses,” since runners zigzagged across the course to find the next watery spray. That year Boston officials asked residents along the course to rig up their garden hoses and spray the steamy runners. THERE HASN'T BEEN SO MUCH TALK ABOUT THE BOSTON MARATHON WEATHER since 1976, when Boston temps hit 90+ degrees for three days prior to the Marathon and then again on race day.
